MMC Welcomes 5 New Physicians

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & SurgiCenter (MMC) proudly welcomes five new physicians to its growing network of providers: Dr. Austin Evans, Dr. Yusra Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Fowler, Dr. Lauren Frye, and Dr. Alexander Shahin. Their addition reflects MMC's continued commitment to expanding access to exceptional, patient-centered healthcare across Middle Tennessee.
Each physician brings outstanding training, specialized expertise, and a shared passion for delivering compassionate, high-quality care close to home.
Austin Evans, D.O. – Internal & Family Medicine
Dr. Austin Evans joins MMC's Internal & Family Medicine Department, where he provides comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages. A Middle Tennessee native, Dr. Evans is committed to serving the community where he was raised by delivering compassionate, personalized care focused on prevention, chronic disease management, and long-term wellness.
Dr. Evans earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn University before receiving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he cared for patients in inpatient, outpatient, and urgent care settings while mentoring medical students and residents.
Yusra Mohammed, D.O. – Internal & Family Medicine
Dr. Yusra Mohammed joins MMC's Internal & Family Medicine Department, providing comprehensive primary care with special interests in women's health, pediatrics, geriatrics, preventive care, and office-based procedures. She is dedicated to building lasting relationships with patients while helping them achieve their healthiest lives.
Dr. Mohammed earned her Bachelor of Science from Middle Tennessee State University before receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine residency at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital and most recently served as a primary care physician specializing in women's health.
Samuel Fowler, M.D. – Ophthalmology
Dr. Samuel Fowler joins MMC Ophthalmology, where he provides comprehensive eye care while bringing advanced clinical training and research experience in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. His interests include medical and surgical ophthalmology with a commitment to preserving and restoring vision for patients throughout every stage of life.
Dr. Fowler earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee Hamilton Eye Institute. Throughout his training, he has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and ophthalmic research while remaining actively involved in community outreach and vision care initiatives.
Lauren Frye, D.O. – Vascular Surgery
Dr. Lauren Frye joins MMC Vascular Surgery & the Vein Center, where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of arterial and venous disease using both minimally invasive and open surgical techniques. She is committed to helping patients improve their vascular health through personalized treatment plans and innovative surgical care.
Dr. Frye earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine before completing her General Surgery residency at East Carolina University and a Vascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky. She is board certified in Vascular Surgery and has been practicing in Middle Tennessee since 2021.
Alexander Shahin, M.D. – Rheumatology
Dr. Alexander Shahin joins MMC Rheumatology, where he specializes in diagnosing and treating autoimmune and inflammatory diseases affecting the joints, muscles, and connective tissues. He is passionate about combining evidence-based medicine with compassionate care to improve quality of life for patients living with chronic rheumatologic conditions.
Dr. Shahin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Princeton University before receiving his medical degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. After completing his Internal Medicine residency at the University of South Florida, he pursued fellowship training in Rheumatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His background includes extensive clinical research and numerous peer-reviewed publications in autoimmune disease and related fields.
