Painless Skin Cancer Treatment

Skin Cancer is not typically a component in anyone’s gameplan. However, according to the National Cancer Institute between 40-50% of Americans will experience the disease at least once after age 65. Though no one wishes to receive the news of cancer, there are options when faced with this diagnosis.

Superficial Radiotherapy (SRT) treatment is a non-invasive alternative to traditional scalpel removal for non-melanoma skin cancers.

Not only is this treatment non-surgical, it is fast, painless, and verified effective.

SRT treats non-melanoma skin cancer by utilizing a radiation technology that inhibits the cancerous cells ability to reproduce, killing off the tumor.

A patient at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic Dermatology department has seen incredible results from his treatment. Robert Lufkin had a large, raised cancerous tumor behind his ear. Dr. Albert Kattine, Dermatologist at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, determined there were two options for treatment. The cancer could either be removed surgically, or SRT could be applied. Because the surgery would be so extensive, he would lose part of his ear. Not only were there cosmetic concerns, but there were several further risks, as Lufkin is 91 years old.

After seventeen visits, the cancer was completely shrunk and removed. Lufkin states that he, “was never sick, never had to change (his) diet, or have any restrictions to daily life.” He considers himself lucky to have had this option, and wishes those who pursue this procedure the success he had.

When life throws cancerous curve balls, there are options in how to respond.

It is important to receive regular screenings to prevent the progression of skin cancer. For options in prevention and towards a cure, meet with MMC Dermatology.
