MMC’s Director of Operations, Denise McArthur Flanagan, Honored

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic is proud to announce that its Director of Operations, Denise McArthur Flanagan, was recently honored as a 2015 Woman in Business by Murfreesboro Magazine. Denise is a member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), a Certified Medical Practice Executive of the American College (ACMPE), and a graduate of the 2007 Leadership Rutherford Class.

Denise attended Middle Tennessee State University and began her career with MMC in 1989 where she served as Medical Secretary for the General Surgery department. She served in various positions with the Clinic, including Administrative Assistant and Internal Medicine department Manager, before assuming her role as Director of Operations in 2005. In 2011, Denise earned the professional designation of Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) from the ACMPE, the certification body of the MGMA.

As Director of Operations at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and SurgiCenter, Denise is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the operational activities in the Clinic’s 19 clinical departments, as well as its ancillary services and support departments.

“During my 25 years at MMC, what I have enjoyed the most is seeing the impact on the community of the work done each day by our physicians and staff,” Denise said. “Whether it’s through compassionate care given to our patients and their families, offering a new technology which is not available elsewhere in the community, or through the generous volunteer and benevolent work by countless members of our staff…I know that we are truly making a difference.”

For the last five years, Denise has served on the Board of Directors of the Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross, as well as Treasurer and Volunteer Event Organizer for Bald in the ‘Boro, benefiting the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation. She also served on the Leadership Rutherford Council from 2007-2010.

“I have watched Denise grow as a person and a professional,” said MMC CEO, Joseph A. Peay. “She has an amazing attitude that she throws into every situation she encounters. This includes new technological developments, multi-million dollar construction projects, legal or regulatory changes in the healthcare industry, and even the challenges of motherhood. I am glad that she is getting this recognition as I have seen it for the last 16 years!”

Denise is married to Greg Flanagan, Investigator with the Murfreesboro Police Department. They enjoy “unplugging” with their daughter by camping, kayaking, and boating. They reside in Lascassas and are members of New Vision Baptist Church.
