MMC General Surgeon Utilizes Robotics for Better Patient Care
Murfreesboro Medical Clinic General Surgery department’s Paul Pasarilla, M.D., is among the first of surgeons in Middle Tennessee to utilize minimally invasive robotic guided surgical system to perform right colectomy and hernia surgeries.
Both procedures traditionally operate of one large, open incision. In contrast, the da Vinci Surgical System allows the procedure to be completed in a minimally–invasive fashion.
The assistance of the robotic guided surgical system allows for the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision through a high definition, 3D vision system. The special wristed instruments bend and rotate far greater than the capability of the human wrist, contributing to enhanced precision and control.
“Patients often struggle with the making the decision to have invasive surgery or, if there isn’t any immediate need, the decision to live with an uncomfortable or painful problem. Fortunately, we have a highly skilled surgeon right here in Rutherford County that is now performing robotic-guided surgery that leaves behind minimal scaring. Recovery time for this procedure is typically half of the recovery time associated with an open surgery,” noted Dr. James Rone, MMC President.
Dr. Pasarilla is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and has been practicing with MMC for the past 9 years. In addition to his general surgery practice, Dr. Pasarilla cares for women with breast cancer at MMC’s Comprehensive Breast Center.

You’re invited! Come ‘test drive’ the da Vinci Surgical System at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic on Monday, April 17th from 8am – 5pm. The system will be set up on the 2nd floor landing near the Internal & Family Medicine Department on the south side of the campus.
